Is Anger a Sin?

You know, I would have to say 99% of the time anger is a sin. So what constitutes a sin?

A sin is something that hurts you or others. For a time you do things that you normally wouldn’t do that creates problems.

Anger can be a small issue for some people and others it can be a massive problem. The business of anger management classes is a big business. Many upper management folks have had several classes to control this problem, but wouldn’t it be nice if you could cure it?

This brings me back to the core topic, is anger sin? In biblical terms you have multiple deadly sins and anger ranks in the top. We tend to make excuses for our actions. He has a reason to be angry, a guy just cut you off in his car, someone cursed at you, a co-worker just got a promotion because he was friends with the boss, the list goes on and on.

The point is sin/anger stirs some bad emotions, it puts you in a bad frame of mind and this can lead to some pretty bad situations. Now, what if it caused you to hurt someone you cared for, would this not hurt you more? Be honest, you have already had this happen at least once already.

The other thing we have to come to grips with is we allow this to happen. It’s hard to admit we have weaknesses, I know I did, unfortunately it took a bad situation for me to really see what sin was and admit I allowed this to happen.

People mask their pain and guilt with alcohol, drugs, over eating and a whole slew of other vices. We also hope that by doing nothing it will all go away, but it doesn’t. That’s why the world offers anger management classes, but why not look at another option, explore what these multiple deadly sins are and see if together we can’t put sin out of business, at least in your life.
